An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Educator Trainee/Band 8a Nurse/Non-Medical Endoscopist to join our Non-Medical Endoscopist team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

This innovative and dynamic department has a highly skilled and enthusiastic team of professionals, who work together with associated colleagues throughout the Trust. Our Endoscopy services span both the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire sites providing outpatient and inpatient services, as well as a regional out of hours on call emergency bleed service.

Working within our busy Endoscopy unit you will ensure endoscopy is delivered in line with best practice with an excellent patient experience at the heart of what we do. There will be opportunity to enhance and develop your knowledge and endoscopy skills with full support from the wider team.

The role will require working unsupervised as an expert practitioner and you must demonstrate specific skills in disorders of the GI tract, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic techniques and subsequent management and follow up of your caseload.

The post holder will act as an excellent clinical role model and work to continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework, assisting to coordinate aspects of audit in relation to both local and national criteria.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a patient focused Endoscopy service.
  • To perform flexible sigmoidoscopy on patients screened via the Bowel Screening Service.
  • To perform endoscopy for the elective/symptomatic service.
  • Ascertain diagnosis and action appropriate ongoing care.
  • Contribute to training requirements within the Endoscopy Department.
  • Contribute to standard setting and development of policies and procedures for the Endoscopy Department.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse or equivalent experience/ qualifications
  • 1st Degree (health related)
  • Non medical prescriber
  • Masters Degree – or working towards
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
  • Counselling skills certificate

Experience

  • Band 7 (or equivalent) leadership experience
  • Evidence of teaching experience – both formal and informal
  • Awareness of national developments in Endoscopy
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of departmental JAG accreditation process
  • Evidence of involvement in research
  • Evidence of using audit to improve quality of care and service development
