As a Trainee Necropsy Scientist based in Eye, Suffolk, your role will mainly be within our Necropsy department. Your main responsibilities will include:

  1. Performing routine macroscopic necropsy techniques for all species, including trimming and retaining organs.
  2. Performing caesarean necropsy techniques and fetal examinations.
  3. Performing non-routine tasks such as tissue freezing.
  4. Preparing reagents and processing samples for skeletal examinations.
  5. Handling animals and conducting euthanasia procedures in accordance with legal requirements.
  6. Routine analysis of sperm and operation of computer-aided sperm analyzers.

There may be opportunities to cross-train in other related departments, including histology.

Education:

  • Ideally, you will have a degree in a biology-related subject, but this can be substituted with GCSEs and a passion for science.

Experience:

  • No necropsy experience necessary as full training will be provided; however, an interest in science is preferred.
  • Experience in anatomy and dissection is beneficial.
