Job summary

Citizens Advice Somerset is offering a 12-month training role in money and debt advice to help people in Somerset manage debt and budgeting. You will be trained through our industry qualification programme, shadow debt sessions, and progress to supervised debt advice with ongoing mentoring from experienced staff.

The role focuses on providing money, debt, budgeting and income maximisation guidance, building trust with clients and maintaining high standards of accuracy and detail throughout

Qualifications

• Interest in money and debt advice sector
• Willingness to learn through an industry qualification programme
• Strong accuracy and attention to detail
• Empathy and ability to support people in financial difficulty

Responsibilities

• Work within the ethos and values of Citizens Advice Somerset
• Develop positive relationships with clients and partners
• Provide peer support and guidance to staff and volunteers
• Provide money advice and casework as trained, covering debt topics
• Assist clients with welfare benefits advice, housing and income maximisation
• Undertake negotiations with creditors and draft letters or make calls when needed
• Prepare and present cases to statutory bodies and courts as required
• Maintain timely, accurate case records and administrative systems
• Identify research and campaigns issues locally and nationally
• Provide reports to the Service Manager and trustee board
• Participate in mentoring and training updates to maintain knowledge and skills
