Job description

Trainee Medical Underwriter

Starting Salary £25,000

We have an exciting opportunity to join our medical underwriting team to provide outstanding service to our customers, as well as assessing risk. You will utilise medical knowledge to support the operation by risk assessment to ensure underwriting is aligned to our risk appetite and strategy for the Private Medical Insurance business. This job allows step pay progression to becoming a fully effective underwriter in PMI. There is a very clear progression plan in place for this role.

A bit about the job:

To underwrite medical insurance policies, providing a risk assessment service to maintain a sound profitable business. Encompassing consumer, small/medium enterprises, large corporate and international applications.

Financial – Underwrite policies under the PMI portfolio. Reviewing and maintaining an underwriting philosophy in affiliation to clinical knowledge and claims margin.

Non Financial – Deals with PMI Health products in line with underwriting philosophy. Works in line with Aviva policies and guidelines. Individuals move through the progression framework from trainee to fully effective.

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  • Insurance/health/PMI background is desirable but not essential

  • Experienced call handler with good listening skills

  • Work independently, within underwriting authority, handling more complex risks and technical referrals from the team, conferring where appropriate

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Enthusiastic and keen to learn

  • Starting salary £25,000
