Job summary

Travail Employment Group is recruiting a Trainee Manual Machinist in Haywards Heath. This permanent, Monday–Friday role offers training in manual machining, reading engineering drawings, quality checking, and producing precision components within an established workshop.

Salary sits around £24,784 to £26,500 with 24 days holiday, bank holidays, pension contributions, private health insurance, parking and a Christmas shutdown.

Qualifications

• Reading engineering drawings and using hand tools or measuring equipment is desirable.
• Desire to learn and develop skills in manual machining and quality checks.
• Practical and reliable with an interest in engineering.Working in a supportive workshop environment.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate manual machinery including lathes, milling machines, drills, presses and an NC band saw.
• Support production of precision components to required standards.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Carry out basic quality checks using calibrated measuring equipment.
• Assist with adjustments to ensure work meets quality standards.
• Develop understanding of machining techniques and workshop processes.
• Support basic troubleshooting and machine care.
• Work closely with experienced machinists to build knowledge.
• Maintain clean and safe working environment.
