Job description

Here at Dorothy House we provide compassionate care and support for people in our community with a life-limiting illness. Using our full breadth of service, we create individual care journeys which start at diagnosis and continue with bereavement support for family, carers and children.

We have an exciting opportunity for a registered healthcare professional looking for a new challenge or change in direction. We are looking for a motivated and caring individual with a passion for patient-centred care to join our specialist team as a Trainee Lymphedema Practitioner.

TRAINEE LYMPHOEDEMA PRACTITONER | Band 5 | £29,970 - £36,483 per annum (pro rata)
Progressing to Band 6 after successful completion of your 12 month training.

Working under the guidance of experienced specialists to assess, support, and manage patients with or at risk of lymphoedema, you will develop the key skills required for autonomous practice across our inpatient, outpatient and community settings.

You will be supported to complete accredited lymphoedema training and gain competence in:

  • Managing caseloads of both palliative and non-palliate patients
  • Holistic assessment, triage, and management of Lymphoedema cases
  • Delivering care using techniques such as Simple Lymphatic Drainage (SLD), Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), multi-layer bandaging and compression therapy
  • Supporting patients through tailored care plans, group therapy and 1:1 support
  • Advising and educating healthcare professionals and carers
  • Contributing to service development, audit and innovation
  • Attending team meetings and community visits
  • Working with the education department, participate in the Education Programme for both Dorothy House staff and external stakeholders
  • Participating in training and education both internally and externally

HOURS OF WORK

This is a Part Time role working 22.5 hours per week.
This role will be based both at our Dorothy House Hospice in Winsley and out in our community.

Essential requirements:

  • Registered Healthcare Professional (HCPC/NMC)
  • Knowledge of holistic patient care principles with the ability to carry out comprehensive assessments
  • Compassionate, person-centered approach to care
  • Up to date knowledge of developments in the wider NHS and social care
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to practice hands on clinical skills and flexibly respond to the needs of the Lymphoedema service
  • Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle

Desirable requirements:

  • Post graduate training in palliative care and/or Lymphoedema training
  • Experience of Lymphoedema management
  • Experience of tissue viability
  • Experience of working in the field of palliative care
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinical innovation relevant to the role
