Job summary

GAP Group Limited is hiring a Trainee Lifting Engineer to learn lifting skills, service and maintain equipment, and diagnose faults. You will work with experienced engineers and progress toward national LEEA qualifications to become fully qualified.

The role requires ability to work in a mechanical environment, a driving licence, and a willingness to develop skills through on‑the‑job training. Potential career progression available within GAP’s multiple divisions across the UK.

Qualifications

• Interest in mechanical/fitter environment and willingness to learn on the job.
• Able to work on own initiative and assist teammates when needed.
• Customer-focused approach with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Learn basic lifting skills and overhead crane proof load testing.
• Service and maintain lifting equipment to high standards.
• Diagnose and repair faults and update service records.
• Complete test certificates and keep workshop area clean and tidy.
• Support engineers and progress to LEEA qualifications to become a fully qualified Lifting Engineer.

Job description

GAP Lifting Hire & Sales offers one of the largest ranges of lifting equipment and accessories in the industry. From small shackles and slings to material lifts and aluminium gantries, the division has everything our customers need for lifting any size of load. As a Trainee Lifting Engineer, you will learn everything from basic lifting skills to the proof load testing of overhead cranes and runway systems. This will include how to service and maintain lifting equipment to a high standard, diagnosing and repairing faults, updating service records, completing test certificates and keeping the workshop area clean and tidy. You will work alongside our experienced Lifting Engineers and once you have successfully completed your initial training, you will go on to complete industry standard LEEA qualifications to become a fully qualified Lifting Engineer.

About You

• A passion for working in a mechanical or fitter environment with a willingness to learn on the job and undertake further qualifications
• Ability to work on own initiative and assist other team members when required
• A customer-focussed approach to their work and strong attention to detail
• Full UK Drivers Licence is essential
