Job summary

Serco Leisure is recruiting on behalf of Leisure Solutions Community Trust to hire Trainee Lifeguards for Westgate Leisure Centre in PO19 1RJ. You will help supervise pool activities, ensure safety, and provide excellent customer care in a friendly, welcoming environment.

No previous lifeguarding experience is required; you will receive comprehensive training and development, full safety procedures, and access to leisure benefits, including free centre access.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.
• Able to pass a swimming/physical swim test.
• No lifeguard experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pool activities and ensure safety for all users.
• Maintain pool area cleanliness and equipment setup.

Working hours: Part time and Casual hours available to cover a mixture of early and late shifts including weekends.

Salary: £10.85 to £13.45 per hour + Excellent benefits

Without you there can’t be any pool activity. But you won’t be working alone. What You’ll Need To Do The Role

You’ll need to have excellent customer service skills as you’ll be interacting heavily with our customers. So, whether you’ve earned that experience in a leisure or another customer facing environment, you’ll be a people person who is happy dealing with people of all ages and backgrounds.

You will be providing customer care to people of all ages, supervising activities, maintaining high standards of cleanliness in the pool area, and ensuring the safe handling and set up of pool equipment. And of course, when needed – you’ll help to save lives.

As a lifeguard you’ll naturally need to be a strong swimmer, safety conscious, vigilant, and able to deal with pressurised situations.

No previous Lifeguarding experience required, this role is open to anybody who has the desire to be a lifeguard and can meet the minimum requirements in a swim test.

To pass the swim test you must be able to perform the following

• Jump/dive into deep water
• Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds (this is usually 2 lengths of the pool)
• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water (this is usually 8 lengths of the pool)
• Tread water for 30 seconds
• Surface dive to the floor of the pool (this is usually no deeper than 2.0m)
• Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits
