Job description
Overview

This opportunity is for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Team at Aintree Hospital and deliver excellent care. Successful candidates will provide direct clinical care through independent assessment and examination of patients, nurse-led clinics and inpatient reviews. Candidates should have (or be working towards) a relevant Masters level qualification, including Clinical Examination and Diagnostics, and a Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification. Annex 21 – Trainee post will be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Lead investigations and treatments to improve patient experience and outcomes.
  • Provide a consistent and personalised service, ensuring patients receive the best care in the best place by the best team.
  • Offer social, emotional and psychological support for patients from referral through treatment.
  • Deliver expert, evidence-based care: develop, assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for a defined caseload.
  • Make appropriate referrals to consultants or other MDT members in primary, secondary or tertiary care settings.
  • Be aware of risk management issues locally and nationally and develop strategies accordingly.
  • Work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain personal accountability for professional and ethical actions and ensure compliance with standards of professional conduct.
  • Develop and maintain a specialist service for patients within the caseload, ensuring timely treatment and follow-up.
  • Provide and maintain a diagnostic service for the Trust; lead clinician-led clinics for diagnoses and reporting of results.
  • Provide teaching as an in-house measure to medical and clinical staff and other services.
  • Plan and administer treatment as appropriate and ensure handover of treatment to community services when necessary.
  • Provide expert care, advice and support for patients and relatives/carers, ensuring contact is available throughout the patient journey.
  • Refer to other agencies as appropriate and act as a clinical specialist and expert practitioner in the area of care.
  • Direct and delegate care based on accurate assessment and evaluation; obtain consent for investigative procedures and perform advanced clinical skills. May work clinical shifts in a ward environment if required.
Qualifications
  • Clinical professional qualification, degree level or equivalent with appropriate registration.
  • Teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Relevant post-registration qualification/equivalent.
  • Evidence of participation in audit and research.
  • Desirable: Prescriber, MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) or started the MSc ACP pathway/programme and committed to completing within an agreed time frame. Note: Post holder will be in a training post (Annex 21) until evidence of MSc ACP completion is provided.
  • Understanding and application of healthcare governance.
  • Up-to-date Advanced Clinical Practice portfolio; excellent communication skills.
  • Commitment to delivering high standards of patient care; basic IT skills (including e-mail and word processing); supportive of colleagues.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated with the ability to motivate the team; high personal and professional credibility; act as a role model for staff.
  • Demonstrable experience in the specialty; evidence of effective management, leadership, staff development, change management and application of current clinical service issues.
  • UK professional registration is required.
