Job description

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic apprentice to join our healthcare assistant team. Central Surgery is a large practice located in the historic town of Barton-upon-Humber with a branch surgery in the picturesque village of Goxhill.

Our team consists of 5 partners, salaried GPs, ANPs, ACPs, Practice Nurses, HCAs, and Pharmacists, along with supportive reception and admin teams. We are a proactive member of the North Care Network and have additional roles including First Contact Physiotherapists, Clinical Pharmacists, Social Prescribing Link Workers, and PAs.

The Surgery is committed to the ongoing development of all our staff and is proud to be a training practice for GP registrars and medical students, working with Hull and York Medical School and the North Lincs Vocational Training Scheme.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direct supervision of our lead nurse, you will support the clinical team and provide direct patient care, including but not limited to:

  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Recording patient observations
  • ECGs
  • Diabetic Foot Checks

In collaboration with the PCN, we provide care aligned with both national and local enhanced services, achieving high results for QOF and IIF.

Job responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • New patient health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Chaperoning
  • Diabetic foot checks
  • Samples collection
  • Supporting the nursing team with health promotion programmes
  • Monitoring and stocking clinical rooms
  • Processing and managing laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Sterilising, cleansing, and maintaining equipment
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions

This list is not exhaustive, and all duties are subject to appropriate training and supervision by a registered nurse.

Pay rate ranges from £6.40 to £8.60 per hour, depending on age, as per apprenticeship pay schemes.
