Job description

Trainee Financial Planner – Fareham

About Attivo:

Attivo are Lifestyle Financial Planners.

We’re a privately owned company. We prefer it that way. It means we’re free to do what we feel is best for our clients and our people. Our work is all about our clients. We pride ourselves on being completely transparent, open and honest – an approach that builds trust with our clients and inspires their financial confidence.

Our experienced, highly qualified financial specialists and expert support teams are committed to delivering more for all our clients. Our independent status and unique approach to understanding our clients, their preferences and their motivation, sets us apart. We will build and provide ongoing support for a bespoke financial plan aimed at fulfilment of our clients’ lifestyle needs.

Whetheryou’re a private client or a business accessing our corporate services, you can rely on a clear, consistent service from your Financial Planner and from our experienced teams.

Our culture is one of high performance, continuous development, and shared success. We promote from within and invest heavily in the progression of our people – because when our people thrive, so do our clients. We’re proud to have been named one of the Professional Adviser’s Best Financial Advisers to Work For 2025.

About the role:

We’re looking for a dedicated Trainee Financial Planner to join our Fareham team, supporting one of our most experienced and high-performing Associate Directors. This is a rare opportunity to work directly with a senior adviser who has built strong, long-standing relationships with a high-net-worth client base – the perfect environment to learn and grow.

You’ll be immersed in a true financial planning culture, with structured support to progress your career – whether you're a highly technical paraplanner ready to move into advice, or someone already advising who wants to accelerate their development under expert mentorship.

About you:

You're technically strong, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering excellent outcomes for clients. You may be working as a paraplanner or in a planning support role and are now ready to step into advice – or you’ve recently begun advising and want the right environment to refine your skills under the mentorship of an experienced Associate Director.

You’re Diploma qualified (or very close), and you’re already working towards Chartered status because you take your development seriously. You’re curious, ambitious, and want to work somewhere that will stretch your potential – with a clear career path and the chance to make a real impact.

You thrive in a professional, high-performance environment where clients always come first. You’re collaborative, confident with clients, and motivated to grow into a well-rounded Financial Planner who’s respected for their technical ability, integrity, and care.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Associate Director in delivering high-quality, independent financial planning to a portfolio of high-net-worth clients
  • Attend client meetings and contribute to the fact-finding, note-taking, and follow-up process, developing your confidence and understanding
  • Prepare financial planning reports, cashflow models, investment reviews, and technical research under supervision
  • Build trusted relationships with clients through regular communication and excellent service
  • Coordinate with paraplanners, administrators, and wider team members to ensure seamless client experiences
  • Maintain accurate client records and ensure all compliance requirements are met
  • Proactively engage with your personal development plan, working towards Chartered Financial Planner status and eventual CAS sign-off
  • Contribute to business growth by identifying opportunities for referrals, additional services, and deeper client relationships

Essential skills and experience:

  • Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning (DipPFS or equivalent)
  • Strong technical knowledge across pensions, investments, protection, and tax planning
  • Experience working in a paraplanning or financial planning support role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Genuine desire to become a Financial Planner and deliver outstanding client outcomes
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and eager to learn from experienced advisers
  • Able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, professional environment
  • Confident using financial planning software (e.g. cashflow modelling tools) and CRM systems

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Working towards Chartered Financial Planner status (or intention to do so)
  • Previous exposure to client meetings or experience in a client-facing role
  • Experience using cashflow modelling tools such as Voyant or CashCalc
  • Knowledge of FCA compliance requirements and suitability standards
  • Understanding of financial planning for high-net-worth individuals
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to identify planning opportunities
  • Familiarity with Intelligent Office or similar CRM systems
  • Strong alignment with Attivo’s values and commitment to ethical, independent advice

Salary and benefits:

Circa £40,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

Attivo also offers:

  • Non-contributory Pension Scheme
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Income Protection
  • Critical Illness
  • Death in Service
  • Generous holiday allowance, rising with length of service
  • Work from home and flexible working available
  • Parking allowance for employees who live over 1.5 miles away from the office
  • Excellent culture, promoting employee wellbeing and engagement
