Delivery combines taught days and supervised practice across education settings. On completion, trainees join the BPS/BABCP and work as a qualified EMHP.

Job description

CYP MH East (Children and Young People Mental Health Service) Mental Health Support in schools and colleges team have an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Trainee EMHP. On completion of the training, you will progress to a band 5 qualified EMHP. EMHP training is offered as either a Graduate or Postgraduate Diploma. Both Diplomas entitle successful trainees to join the BPS or BABCP register and then work as a qualified EMHP after training. Candidates without an undergraduate degree are eligible to join the Level 6 Graduate Diploma, while those who already hold an undergraduate degree will be eligible for enrolment in the Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma. There is a recently launched accreditation system for providers of EMHP training, operated by the British Psychological Society. The training programme for EMHPs is 12 months in duration and consists of academic and supervised practice learning across mental health services and educational settings, such as primary and secondary schools and further education colleges. Delivery of the training will be provided through a combination of taught days provided by the Psychological Therapies Training Centre, independent self-guided study days and experience gained in education wellbeing and mainstream mental health services.

  • Assess and deliver, under supervision, outcome focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people in education settings experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Working in partnership, support children, young people and their families in the self-management of presenting difficulties, principally anxiety and depression.
  • Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify and where appropriate manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing whilst improving access to mental health services.
  • To support schools in developing strategies and activities to promote emotional well-being and positive mental health.
  • Operate at all times from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity.
  • Signpost referrals to the relevant service.
  • Undertake assessments of risk to self and others.
  • Provide a range of information and support for evidence based psychological treatments, primarily guided self-help.
  • To use the acquired skills, knowledge and abilities to deliver a service, based within education settings that builds on and reinforces but does not replace those initiatives that already exist within these environments.
