Job description

Trainee Duty Manager | Barry Leisure Centre

Position: Full Time / 40 hours | Salary: £26,267.04

The Trainee Duty Manager is a key role within the company, responsible for ensuring high standards of customer and staff relations. This position offers a rewarding experience and serves as a stepping stone to a career in leisure management within a rapidly growing company.

Primary Objectives
  1. Ensure the highest standards of health, safety, and customer care within the Centre.
  2. Develop and promote an innovative leisure programme to increase usage and profitability.
  3. Assume shift management responsibilities to maximize Centre performance and maintain excellent customer service.
  4. Work closely with a current Duty Manager to gain valuable experience and knowledge.
The Person
  • First Aid at Work Qualification and National Pool Lifeguard Qualification are desirable; training will be provided if not held. A Pool Plant Operators qualification is also desirable or must be obtained within a set period.
  • Recognition in Leisure Management, Sports Development, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Ability to gain respect from clients and team members.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with customers, clients, and employees.
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Understanding and responsiveness to customer needs.
  • Commitment to good employee relations and delivering quality training.
  • Flexibility for shift work is highly desirable.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Candidates should ideally have or be willing to obtain:

  • NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification)
  • Leisure Management Qualification
  • Pool Plant Operators Certificate Level 2 or 3
  • Proficiency in Welsh is highly desirable but not essential
  • Experience in Leisure Centre Operations or related industries such as Hospitality, Retail, Activity Centres, Holiday Parks is advantageous
