NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a registered nurse to undergo a Specialist Practitioner Qualification in Advancing District Nursing Practice. This fixed-term position offers opportunities to learn and develop skills while practicing in the community, supported by a dedicated team and flexible working hours. The shift pattern for this position is from Monday to Sunday, and the post is fixed-term for 2 years.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse with relevant post-registration experience and an honours degree or equivalent to undertake the Specialist Practitioner Qualification PgD in Advancing District Nursing Practice at Glasgow Caledonian University, commencing September 2025.
Candidates must hold an appropriate academic credit rating, typically a degree, and must demonstrate recent academic study. The course is offered on a part-time basis over 2 years. Support will be provided for university attendance and protected study leave during academic semesters. When not at university, you will practice as part of the community team. The working pattern is a 5-day schedule over a 7-day service, including public holidays, weekends, out-of-hours (OOH), and backshifts.
During the course, candidates will be employed as SPQ students – Community Staff Nurse. Upon successful completion, they will be considered for vacant band 6 District Nursing posts within Glasgow City HSCP, involving an interview process. Preference for geographical area will be considered, but positions can be based anywhere within Glasgow City HSCP.
Candidates should be self-motivated practitioners with an evidence-based approach to practice. The evolving services within primary care require clinicians committed to enhancing their skills through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and lifelong learning.
Students will be supported by a Community Practice Teacher/Practice Assessor, responsible for developing a learning program and assessing competence. Learning outcomes are achieved through university coursework and practice-based learning, assessed via written assignments, examinations, and practice learning plans.
Students who pass the required modules will progress to temporary Associate District Charge Nurse roles at the end of their training, with a band 6 uplift during supervision.
Course fees will be paid by Glasgow City HSCP. Students are eligible for travel expenses for clinical placements and home visits. Travel to and from the university will not be reimbursed.
For NHS employees, this opportunity will be offered on a fixed-term secondment basis; for non-NHS applicants, on a Fixed Term Contract basis.
