Job summary

ABL in Swindon is seeking a Trainee CYP High Intensity CBT Practitioner to train towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies Practice (CYP CBT). Working within a BABCP level two accredited course, you will gain skills delivering evidence-based CBT for children and young people under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Hold a level 6 qualification – a bachelor’s degree BA/BSc or BA/BSc Hons or equivalent or a pre-existing PG Diploma or equivalent intensity to the CYP-IAPT course.
  • 2a) A core profession – Core Professions include: BACP Accredited Therapist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Registered Mental Health Nurse; evidence of 2 years full-time practice.
  • 2b) Evidence of working with CYP and families via KSA route with 4 years full-time relevant professional experience

Responsibilities

  • Assess and, under supervision, deliver evidence-based, outcome-focused interventions to children and young people and families.
  • Develop intervention plans and agreed outcomes with the family and child.
  • Manage risk, safeguarding concerns and maintain accurate clinical records and outcome data.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams and contribute to service evaluation and training materials.

Job Purpose:

We are excited to offer the trainee post at the University of Exeter, studying towards a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies Practice (CYP CBT Practitioner). This is a British Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) level two accredited course where practitioners will gain skills and knowledge in delivering evidence-based CBT for children and young people for the treatment of depression and anxiety.

As a Trainee High Intensity CBT Therapist, you will work with a diverse team offering both clinical and non-clinical support to children, young people, and their families across Swindon.

You will deliver high quality focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people under expert supervision and as part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary mental health team.

As part of your training, you will need to attend all university-based taught and self-study days required by Exeter University and work within service for the remaining days of the week using your newly developed skills.

There are some essential criteria set by the University of Exeter and BABCP, which you must meet before you can apply. You must meet criterion 1, and either criterion 2a or 2b.

1. To hold a level 6 qualification – a bachelor’s degree BA/BSc or BA/BSc Hons or equivalent or a pre-existing PG Diploma or equivalent intensity to the CYP-IAPT course.

2a. A core profession – Core Professions include: BACP Accredited Therapist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Registered Mental Health Nurse. 2b. Applicants with suitable evidence of working with CYP and families, can take a KSA (Knowledge and Attitudes Framework). At the start of the course, you will need to evidence the equivalent of a minimum of 4 year’s full-time relevant professional experience of 1:1 therapy, counselling or support work in a setting related to mental health. Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assess and, under supervision, deliver evidence-based, outcome-focused interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, working collaboratively with them and their families to develop appropriate intervention plans and agreed outcomes. The role will involve completing assessments, managing risk and safeguarding concerns, providing evidence-based psychological support including guided self-help, managing an agreed caseload and maintaining accurate clinical records and outcome data. The postholder will work closely with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams, educational settings and other services, making appropriate referrals and escalating cases where needs or risks fall outside their scope of practice. They will also contribute to the development of clinical and training materials, participate in service evaluation and data collection, and support timely access to interventions in line with service requirements. Regular clinical and professional supervision, training, continuing professional development and adherence to relevant policies, professional standards, confidentiality and safeguarding requirements will be essential.
