  • Previous logistics experience is an advantage.

Job description

A client of ours in the Basildon area are recruiting a Trainee Customs Clerk to join their team. This is a full-time permanent position working Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.30pm and paying up to 24,000 per annum depending on experience.

Key Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Completing day to day Customs Clearing and entries for all air, sea and road freight shipments, including EADs & T1s. Create, manage and maintain the correct documentation as each case progresses.
  • Maintain Data input accuracy.
  • Deal with customer enquiries.
  • Telephone and/or written communication with external organisations e.g. HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, Hauliers etc.
  • Obtain necessary Bill of Ladings and correct Tariff Headings and obtain payments from customers.
  • Calculating Duty / VAT cost for each consignment
  • Processing Import/Export declarations
  • Dealing with general enquiries from a range of external sources
  • Keeping up to date with changes in regulations, laws and customs procedures
  • Work with different departments in multiple locations to prepare a complete list of shipments.


Skills and Experience required to be considered for this Trainee Customs Clerk position:

  • 1+ year office experience
  • Excellent Attention to detail is essential
  • GCSE Level 5 (C) and above is required
  • Previous logistics distribution and supply chain experience would be an advantage but not essential
  • Driver with own vehicle is preferred due to office location
