Title: Trainee Control Systems Engineer

Department: Electrical Design

Reporting to: Electrical Design Lead

Salary range: £30,000 to £40,000 depending on experience

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week plus overtime as required to meet business needs. Core hours between 08:30 – 16:30, Monday - Friday

Established in 1974, Airquick (Newark) Ltd offer in-house design, manufacture, installation, and maintenance ofrailways depot equipment such as carriage wash plants and fluid delivery and extraction systems across the wholeof the UK.

Job outline:

Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Trainee Control Systems Engineer to join our team tohelp us continue in delivering controls & automation solutions to complement our products and services.

You will be responsible for the full life cycle on multiple projects, assisting and owning the design through tosuccessful implementation. Collaborating closely with our key clients and the wider team to ensure theirrequirements are understood and met.

Your working week will consist mainly of office working including collaboration with and support of the operationalteams and may also include factory testing and site visits to assist the commissioning and electrical engineers withthe testing and commissioning of ICA and PLC based control systems including modbus and industrial ethernet.

Experience is essential for this role as is the ability to organise your own time, integrate within the team and provideexcellent service to our customers.

Key Skills / Technical Responsibilities

Reviewing customer and internal specifications to determine and confirm controls scope required.

Produce control methodology statement / flow diagram.

Produce PLC I/O lists.

Development of P&IDs in coordination with mechanical design team.

Development of control system electrical schematic diagrams. Knowledge of using EPLAN

software is desirable.

Ensure Engineering and Design activities meet all national and international standards, including

but not limited to BS7671, BS EN ISO 13850, BS EN 60204 and BS EN 61000, along with clients’

standards and best engineering practice.

PLC / SCADA / HMI configuration, testing and commissioning (Schneider Electric and Siemens

would be highly beneficial) within a process industry.

Development of remote monitoring solutions using industry standard products. Ability to

configure Ewon remote connectivity devices desirable but not essential.

Development, configuration, and commissioning of RFID equipment.

Development and integration of new and emerging technologies into control systems for existing

proprietary machines and systems and future innovations.

Ensure adherence to quality and safety systems.

Preparation and management of BOMs.

Supporting the commissioning team and other operational teams.

Assisting with preparation of O&M and technical files.

Essentials

Some industry experience.

Understanding in the full project life cycle from concept to commissioning.

Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.

Excellent computer skills, experience in electrical software programmes to include.

EPLAN as a minimum

Microsoft office suite of programmes

Previous design and site-based experience.

Experience with configuration & commissioning of variable speed drives.

Must be able to work within the UK without a sponsorship requirement.

Full UK/EU drivers’ licence

The role is office based but requires travel and site work as part of the design and implementation phase. This willrequire overnight stays during the commissioning element of the projects as and when required.
