Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Glasgow is recruiting a Trainee Control Engineer to progress to a Control Engineer role after CONT authorisation. The role offers a bespoke training programme over 6 months to 2 years, with a pathway into a 24/7 control room environment supporting the electricity network.

The programme develops expertise in safe network operation, interface management, and outage co-ordination while enabling progression on a shift rota across the network across Scotland and surrounding

Qualifications

Experience in a technical environment; electrical background preferred, though other technical disciplines welcome.
HNC in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Proactive approach with ownership of training and development journey.
Willingness to work towards a 24/7 shift rota.

Responsibilities

Learn to operate the network safely and follow Operational Procedures and Safety Rules.
Gain hands-on experience interfacing with Network Operations, Incident Controllers, and the Distribution Control Centre.
Develop skills in coordinating with NESO to optimise security of supply.
Assist with outage planning, statutory reports, and documentation for network incidents.
Participate in commissioning/decommissioning and implement contingency plans.
