Job description

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Trainee Materials Testing Field Technician to join our team. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone looking to begin a career in construction materials testing. You will be trained to carry out site tests on a variety of construction materials, including concrete, soils, aggregates, and asphalt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sampling and testing of materials on construction sites in accordance with UK and industry standards (e.g., BS EN, BS 1377, BS 812).
  • Perform on-site tests such as slump tests, cube sampling, and in-situ density testing.
  • Deliver samples to the laboratory and assist with laboratory-based testing.
  • Maintain accurate records, complete test reports, and ensure timely communication of results.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in line with health & safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Operate and maintain testing equipment and company vehicles (once trained and qualified).
  • Work flexibly, including early starts, occasional weekends, and travel to various sites.

Requirements

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one upon appointment).

Desirable (but Not Essential)

  • Previous experience in construction, materials testing, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of UKAS standards and testing procedures.
