Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the gynaecology department specializing in colposcopy within the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

We are seeking an experienced gynae nurse willing to train in colposcopy, working across both sites at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and Shrewsbury Hospital. The successful candidate will be employed as a band 6 and will progress to band 7 upon completing training and becoming a BSCCP accredited colposcopist.

As a qualified Nurse Colposcopist, you will work autonomously, undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic roles using your advanced clinical judgment. Your responsibilities include supporting service development based on best practices and ensuring high-quality, compassionate, effective, and efficient care within the colposcopy service.

Job Purpose

Colposcopy Practitioner: The service operates with a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care.

The Colposcopy Practitioner Will
  • Work as part of the team to ensure the Colposcopy Service is efficient and compliant with local and national guidelines.
  • Maintain membership of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).
  • Keep knowledge and experience aligned with BSCCP recommendations.
  • Maintain advanced specialist skills for diagnostic and therapeutic colposcopy, including examination and treatment, requiring dexterity and precision.
  • Promote service change and evidence-based practices to improve care quality as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Advise patients and staff on aspects of care provided.
  • Work independently, managing histology and cytology results and correspondence.
  • Provide a specialist-led service, managing daily operations to meet service demands.
  • Ensure up-to-date protocols and guidelines are in place, aligned with national recommendations.
