Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

This is fixed-term post of 3 years, commencing 1st September 2025.

The shift pattern for this position is Monday to Friday.

This is a National Training Post designed to lead to registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Healthcare Professions Council and will be based within the Edinburgh Fertility Centre and Department of Reproductive Endocrinology (EFC&DRE) based on the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Approximately 600 cycles of assisted reproduction treatment (IVF/ICSI/PGT), 450 cycles of frozen embryo transfer and 2000 laboratory investigations are carried out in EFC per year. The service provides comprehensive fertility care for couples in Edinburgh and South East Scotland. It operates in conjunction with other users such as NHS Lothian, primary care and other stakeholders to ensure consistent standards of fertility care are applied throughout Scotland.

The post holder will join a team of dedicated embryologists and under supervision of the Consultant Clinical Embryologist will become proficient and participate in all embryology and andrology procedures for the assessment and treatment of infertility. These include in vitro fertilisation (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), gamete recruitment and donation, gamete and embryo cryopreservation and surgical sperm retrieval. The post holder will be expected to undertake training and deliver clinical work at an exceptionally high standard, with meticulous attention to detail. A recognised Life Sciences degree awarded at 2;2 or above with a related MSc or PhD is essential. Employment experience within an IVF laboratory is also essential.

Interviews will take place on the 11th of July 2025 and the successful candidate must be available to commence employment on the 1st of September 2025.
