Enterprise and Communities has redesigned its services to deliver the council`s priority outcomes and meet the changing needs of our communities. As the 4th largest authority in Scotland and the largest local authority landlord, we are used to delivering a highly responsive service to our tenants and customers. We want to do more and have hugely ambitious plans to regenerate our communities, build new homes, develop Smarter Homes, create employment, attract investment to North Lanarkshire, prevent homelessness and sustain tenancies.

The post will be based within the New Supply Team within Place. You will join the team based in Motherwell Civic Centre and will assist with the on site monitoring and inspection of the council's new build housing programme.

North Lanarkshire Council's traineeship in Clerk of Works is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in Construction Site Supervision and Building Inspection. As a Trainee you will receive formal training in addition to on the job training to enable you to gain the skills and qualifications needed to drive our Ambition forward.

We will fund your study at Edinburgh Napier University or another appropriate College/University on either a block or day release basis with the aim being to ultimately attain a degree in Construction and the Built Environment (Building Surveying). You will be provided with time off to attend University, study time and you will also be supported by a university and work placed mentor. This is a great opportunity to earn a salary immediately whilst you are studying and there is no cost to you for the training you will receive.

You will be joining a Service which strives for excellence in service delivery and works well with partners, including our joint venture companies. You will assist in a multi-disciplinary environment and your duties will include providing support with on site inspections, health and safety monitoring, weekly reports, liaising with contractors and sub contractors, and reviewing drawings and specifications. Your excellent communication skills and proactive, customer-focussed approach will ensure you provide a professional service to project managers, surveyors, developers and other customers.

This post represents an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual aged 16 years and over with the necessary entry requirements for the relevant career pathway.
