About the Role:

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee CAD Technician to join our established in-house design team specialising in civil engineering projects within the rail sector. This role will involve contributing to civil and structural projects, supporting key clients, and providing critical infrastructure maintenance.

Business Unit:

AmcoGiffen is expanding its in-house Civil & Structural Design team due to our success in securing long-term Frameworks with key clients. We have multiple vacancies for design professionals committed to delivering optimal design solutions while furthering their professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Trainee CAD Technician, you will work under the supervision of a Senior CAD Technician and the CAD Manager to develop technical drawings. Under strong mentorship from experienced individuals, you will gain experience of producing CAD outputs to the required standard efficiently and effectively. As a Trainee, you will have a structured rotation programme within the Design & Engineering team, which will involve CAD, Survey and visualisations experience.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ):

  • Comply with AmcoGiffen’s SHEQ policies and all legal requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to CDM regulations and “Safe by Design” principles.
  • Take personal responsibility for SHEQ standards and encourage others to do the same.
  • Ensure technical compliance of designs, adhering to AmcoGiffen Design and Draughting Procedures.
  • Produce high-quality drawings in compliance with industry standards, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Corporate Responsibility:

  • Strive for customer satisfaction by maintaining high standards and collaborating effectively.
  • Recognise the importance of sustainable development and responsibility as a professional Technician.

Technical:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of industry-standard CAD software.
  • Cultivate an awareness of rail infrastructure and relevant standards, including British Standards, Eurocodes, and ISO certifications.

People and Operations:

  • Enhance your organisational, communication, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Commit to professional development and growth.

Commercial:

  • Contribute to project financial success by maintaining accurate timesheets and documentation.
  • Recognise and report potential financial risks and overspending.

BIM (Building Information Modelling):

  • Understand and work according to AmcoGiffen’s BIM procedures aligned with ISO 19650 principles.
  • Utilise model viewers effectively and manage information in the Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Develop awareness of 4D and 5D applications in project management.

Requirements:

Essential Academic Qualifications:

  • GCSE, T-Level, or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering qualification.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a construction environment (advantageous).
  • Strong spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.
  • Good literacy and mathematical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of technical drawing and drafting.
  • A willingness to progress and learn from experienced colleagues.
