Job summary

First Bus in Huddersfield is seeking motivated Trainee Bus Drivers to join our team. We will fund a comprehensive 13‑month training programme, leading to a First Bus Level 2 Bus Driving Apprenticeship and nationally recognised Maths and English qualifications where required.

The role offers paid training with a starting rate of £13.89 per hour for a 36‑hour week, on a 5 days over 7 rota. You’ll be delivering safe, reliable transport while serving local communities.

Qualifications

• PCV licence required.
• Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
• Customer-focused attitude and reliability are essential.
• Ability to work independently and meet the rota.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Drive buses safely and professionally to connect communities.
• Support trainees through the training programme and competency development.
• Adhere to company policies, safety, and incident procedures.
• Participate in the 13‑month training programme and Apprenticeship pathway.

Trainee Bus Driver – Paid Training

£13.89 per hour (£26,724 per annum)
Hours: 36 hours per week
Shifts: 5 days over 7 (rota issued in advance)

The Role

We're looking for Trainee Bus Drivers to join our team in Huddersfield. If you've held a full UK driving licence for at least six months, we'll support you every step of the way by funding your PCV and CPC training. Once qualified, you'll play an important role in connecting local communities by providing safe, reliable transport for our customers.

Our New Driver Training Programme

Our comprehensive 13-month training programme is designed to support you throughout your first year as a bus driver. Delivered by industry experts and specialist training partners, the programme combines interactive learning with practical development to help you build the skills and confidence needed for success.

Training covers a wide range of topics, including customer service, incident management, safeguarding, and much more. As part of the programme, you'll also work towards a First Bus Level 2 Bus Driving Apprenticeship, with the opportunity to gain nationally recognised Maths and English qualifications where required.

What you'll need
