Purpose Of Role
This traineeship offers an initial role in our technical services team for a year, progressing onto an apprenticeship with a structured blend of on-the-job experience and academic study, designed to develop the technical knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become a fully qualified Building Control Surveyor.
You’ll begin your journey in September 2025 in our technical services team, learning how we work with customers and gaining a solid understanding of our systems and processes for the first year. Your university course will commence in 2026. Alongside your studies, you’ll spend more time out on- site, working alongside experienced surveyors and seeing firsthand how we help ensure that buildings are safe, accessible, environmentally responsible, and built to the highest standards.
Through a mix of university study and practical experience, you’ll play a part in maintaining public safety and trust in the built environment, building a career that makes a visible difference in the places people live, work, and visit.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the technical services team to gain a comprehensive understanding of the building control process
- Working with experienced surveyors and supporting them with all building control activities, including plan checking and site inspection work
- Actively managing your career development to work towards a degree level qualification
- Seeking out leadership opportunities including managing internal projects such as CPD sessions for other surveyors and our clients.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Our trainees and apprentices understand that this is more than just a job, it’s the start of a long-term career in the construction industry, supported by a structured training programme that provides the qualifications and skills needed for future success.
We’re looking for candidates who share our values and are genuinely passionate about working in the built environment. You’ll need to demonstrate leadership potential, a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service, and effective written and verbal communication skills. Competency in using a range of IT systems is also essential.
To succeed in this role, you should be eager to learn, proactive in asking questions, and confident in seeking guidance from experienced colleagues.
You’ll be studying with the University of Wolverhampton to achieve the BSc (Hons) Degree in Building Control Surveying. For this apprenticeship programme, we require applicants to have achieved one of the following admissions conditions
- A Levels - grades CCC or above
- BTEC Extended Diploma – grades MMM or above
- Access to HE Diploma (60 credits) of which a minimum of 45 must be at Level 3 (96 UCAS point equivalence, minimum 45 credits at merit)
- We also accept Level 3 qualifications that are equivalent in depth to those listed above for example the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Construction or related subject area.

- 25 days per annum plus bank holidays with additional days for long service

- Monthly salary from the NMW progressing to 27k, with progression in increments.
