Trainee Bridge Inspector

Location: South Queensferry

Full Time / Permanent, 40 Hours per week, Monday – Friday

BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland. We manage and maintain over 2,000 km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling various tasks to keep Scotland moving.

BEAR is responsible for over 750 bridges and structures, including the iconic Forth Road Bridge and Queensferry Crossing, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge.

We have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic and career-focused candidates to join our team as a Trainee Bridge Inspector on a full-time basis. You will assist in inspecting bridges under the supervision of the Bridge Inspection Manager.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in delivering BEAR Scotland’s Major Bridges Inspection Programmes and help achieve key performance indicators (KPIs).
  2. Under supervision, undertake various inspections including General, Principal, Close & Visual, Safety, Access, Monitoring, and Special Inspections.
  3. Prepare detailed inspection reports and drawings/sketches.
  4. Undertake training such as Work at Height, Confined Space, First-Aid, and others.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • HNC in Civil Engineering is desirable.
  • Previous experience in Civil Engineering is desirable.
  • Ability to work at height and in confined spaces.
  • Training will be provided, including opportunities to gain Lantra Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme ‘BICS’ (NHSS31) and Senior Inspector qualification.
