Trainee Brick & Concrete Product Tester (Lab)

Measham, Swadlincote

Salary starting at £25,000 per annum, to be enhanced on completion of probationary period and training plan.

The Vacancy

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Trainee Brick and Concrete Product Tester. The role involves working primarily in a physical testing environment at our Measham laboratory, where we test products and materials used in construction across the UK.

Following a probationary period, the role is expected to evolve as the candidate gains more experience.

The responsibilities include applying routine test methods such as measuring the dimensions and weight of clay bricks, testing bricks and concrete products for compressive strength, maintaining a clean work environment, and adhering to health & safety procedures.

No previous experience is necessary. The ideal candidate should be able to work as part of a team, perform tests accurately and consistently, and have a practical approach to handling raw materials like clay and aggregates.

This position reports to the Clay Services Manager and supports the Technologist.

Your duties would include but are not limited to:

1. Obtaining samples from the factory for testing.
2. Measuring products for dimensional accuracy.
3. Weighing products to verify density.
4. Testing the physical strength of products.
5. Conducting tests on clays and aggregates, such as sieving for grading.
6. Updating data spreadsheets.
7. Maintaining clean and tidy work areas.

About you:

2. Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
3. Good numeracy skills, computer literacy, and a methodical approach to data collection.
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
5. Regular manual handling of products and raw materials.
