Job summary

Public Health Wales, a national public health agency in Wales, is recruiting a Trainee Biomedical Scientist/Band 5. The role is based at Singleton Hospital, Swansea, with rotation through microbiology sections and exposure to molecular diagnostics.

Training is in an IBMS approved facility, and the workload includes unsocial hours as rostered. Applicants may be considered at Band 5 (75% annex 21) depending on HCPC status, with eligibility for permanent contract and full-time hours.

Qualifications

• Proven microbiology laboratory experience and competency or a science graduate.
• Good laboratory practice and ISO 15189 quality management understanding.
• Willingness to rotate through sections including molecular science and microbiological diagnostics.
• Ability to work unsocial hours (weekends/bank holidays/overnight) as rostered.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of techniques relating to the diagnosis of infectious disease.
• Rotate through multiple sections to gain experience in molecular science and microbiological testing.
• Work within an IBMS approved training laboratory in a 24/7 acute service setting.
