A vacancy has arisen for a Trainee Biomedical Scientist in the Biochemistry department at York Hospital. This is a permanent, full-time position of 37.5 hours a week.

The successful candidate will be part of a team providing high-quality diagnostic services through participation in technical and scientific operations within the Clinical Biochemistry Department.

The department is equipped with Roche Cobas 8100, Roche Cobas 8000 analytical lines, TOSOH G11, Optilite, and protein analysis systems like Sebia Capillarys and Hydrogel.

This role requires participation in a 24/7 shift system.

We support staff professional development through regular meetings and training courses.

We are seeking a Trainee Biomedical Scientist to join our dedicated team. The laboratory is UKAS accredited and supports professional growth.

As a training position, Annex 21 applies to the role banding and pay, detailed on the NHS Employers website.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision:

  • Analyze patient samples, quality controls, and external assessments according to SOPs and QA policies.
  • Maintain specialist equipment through housekeeping, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Validate patient results technically.
  • Communicate effectively with clinicians and service users.
  • Work shifts including evenings, weekends, and nights, with provisional result authorization for immediate patient management.
