Vacancy Description

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  1. To develop knowledge and understanding of Internal Audit’s approach to undertaking reviews as set out in the Internal Audit Plan with the aim of being able to conduct reviews across all the Council’s activities, including evaluations of corporate governance arrangements and strategic risks and report findings and make relevant recommendations for improvement.
  2. To develop knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards, Internal Audit’s Charter and Audit Manual.
  3. To establish and maintain good relations with the client whilst maintaining the appropriate degree of objectivity and independence.
  4. To develop knowledge and understanding of the Council’s counter-fraud arrangements so as to be able to assist in the delivery of Internal Audit’s anti-fraud programme, including investigations into suspected frauds or other irregularities.
  5. To develop relevant skills to be able to effectively manage own workload.
  6. To develop knowledge and understanding of the Council’s arrangements for securing value for money.
  7. To maintain, at all times, confidentiality of all information obtained in the discharge of the duties of the post.
  8. To develop knowledge and understanding of the Council’s Corporate Risk and Opportunity Management arrangements.
  9. To support the Corporate Assurance Manager in ensuring that Internal Audit offers a customer-focused service.
  10. To develop knowledge and understanding of the process required to verify grant claims for both External Audit and other funding bodies.
  11. To develop sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to provide advice to all levels of management on risk and control issues and deliver added value.
  12. To develop sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to undertake independent examinations of accounts produced for external bodies in order to provide an audit opinion on their truth and fairness.
  13. To develop knowledge and understanding of the Council’s Financial Regulations, Contract Procedure Rules and other relevant Council policies and guidance.
