Job description

Trainee Asbestos Analyst, SOCOTEC, Southwest region

Launch Your Career in Environmental Safety – Become a Trainee Asbestos Analyst
No Experience Needed | Full Training Provided

Are you interested in occupational health and making environments safer for others? Looking for a career that makes a real difference? We’re offering a fantastic opportunity to join our expanding team as a Trainee Asbestos Analyst.

This is your chance to build a rewarding career in the environmental safety sector, where your work helps protect people’s health and improve building safety. As part of our dedicated team, you’ll play a key role in identifying and monitoring asbestos in buildings, helping to create safer spaces across the UK. You’ll have the opportunity to work with prestigious clients across sectors such as Defence, infrastructure (rail, roads, power stations), service, retail, and heritage.

You will also receive comprehensive training and continuous support from experienced team members. Upon completion, you will be awarded the P403 qualification—an industry-recognized certification issued by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS).

This entry-level role suits someone enthusiastic, adaptable, and keen to learn in a hands-on environment.

As this is a Trainee role, you will:
  • Go through an intensive 3-month site and office-based training program. During this time, you’ll learn everything about asbestos air monitoring—testing air in buildings for asbestos particles to ensure safety.
  • Check the level of airborne fibres before starting work.
  • Test for leaks during work to ensure safety measures are effective.
  • Carry out post-work air testing to confirm safety before reusing areas.
  • Report health and safety concerns to clients and stop work if necessary.
  • Prepare a final report with project details, including waste documentation, for the building’s safety file.
To be successful in the role:
  • You’ll be a team player with the ability to work independently as you gain confidence in asbestos air monitoring.
  • An interest in working in varied site environments is important, as you'll travel to different locations.
  • A keen eye for detail and interest in analytical work, particularly using microscopes, is valuable, as you’ll examine air samples for asbestos fibres.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills are essential to manage schedules, complete reports accurately, and meet deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, are important for reporting findings and collaborating with clients and colleagues.
  • A full manual UK driving licence is required, as the role involves regular travel to client sites across the region.
