Chiltern Recruitment is assisting a client in Princes Risborough to recruit a Trainee/Apprentice Engineer to support maintenance of production machinery and site facilities. This is suitable for someone studying electrical topics or recent graduates seeking an entry-level electrical position.

You will work with a lead engineer, perform planned maintenance, diagnose faults and attend workshops and training sessions as required.

Qualifications

  • Apprentice-trained engineering background required.
  • Experience with planned preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Logical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with inverter, servo and DC drives.
  • Power and control circuits knowledge from 415V to 24VDC.
  • Facilities management experience within a continuous improvement environment.
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail.
  • Flexible to undertake workshops and training.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance and repair of production machinery alongside the lead engineer.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and inspections.
  • Service production machinery and associated equipment.
  • Record maintenance procedures in logs and reports up to date.
  • Monitor machinery to identify failures, safety risks or quality issues.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out remedial work where possible.
  • Provide handover notes with issue, cause and solution when work incomplete.
  • Develop preventive maintenance tasks using manuals and fault histories.
  • Complete corrective actions to restore output, quality and waste standards.
  • Carry out risk assessments and ensure safe working practices.

Job description

Our Client is recruiting a Trainee/Apprentice Engineer/Apprentice in Princes Risborough to support the maintenance, repair and reliability of production machinery and site facilities.

This could suit someone attending college part time studying an electrical course or has now finished college and looking for an entry level electrical position.

Working closely with a lead engineer and initially assisting until trained, the successful candidate will complete planned maintenance, monitor equipment performance, diagnose faults and undertake remedial work. The role also includes workshops and training sessions where required.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of production machinery while working alongside the lead engineer
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance tasks and regular equipment inspections to the required standard
  • Service production machinery and associated equipment
  • Record completed maintenance procedures accurately in individual machine logs and keep reports clear, concise and up to date
  • Monitor and measure machinery to identify potential failures, safety risks or deterioration in output, waste and quality
  • Diagnose the causes of faults or declining performance and complete remedial work where possible
  • Provide a clear handover to relevant colleagues and the manager when work cannot be completed, including the issue, cause and recommended solution
  • Use equipment manuals and fault histories to develop preventive maintenance tasks, explaining their purpose to the relevant manager
  • Complete corrective actions to return equipment to the required output, quality and waste standards
  • Undertake standardised work audits, identify reasons for non-conformance and rectify issues
  • Recommend and help implement improvements to machinery, processes and maintenance procedures
  • Carry out risk assessments before maintenance work, implement the required controls and follow safe systems of work
  • Ensure equipment is returned to operational teams in a fully safe condition
  • Deliver colleague training where appropriate and provide signed training records to the relevant manager
  • Assist with facilities-related tasks as required and contribute to continuous improvement through effective communication
  • Follow all relevant quality, health, safety and environmental policies
Experience required:
  • Apprentice-trained engineering background
  • Previous experience of planned preventive maintenance
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Logical fault-finding and good problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with inverter, servo and DC drives
  • Experience of power and control circuits ranging from 415V to 24VDC
  • Understanding of pneumatic systems
  • Fabrication experience
  • Facilities management experience, including implementing good practice within a continuous improvement environment
  • Self-motivated approach with strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility towards duties and a willingness to attend workshops and training sessions
