Job summary

The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is offering a Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician (APT) role within the Mortuary and Bereavement Service. This structured training will develop the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to become a qualified APT.

You will work under supervision, supporting a safe, dignified mortuary environment and assisting with death certification, viewings and bereavement support for families and staff.

Qualifications

• Structured training programme to develop knowledge and competencies to become a qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician (APT).
• Ability to work under supervision within a multi-skilled mortuary team.
• Commitment to handling deceased patients and bereaved families with dignity and sensitivity.

Responsibilities

• Assist in admitting, identifying, storing and releasing deceased patients under supervision.
• Support the Mortuary and Bereavement Service to deliver a professional, compassionate service.
• Facilitate legal documentation, infection status declarations and death certification paperwork.
• Provide guidance to bereaved families regarding procedures following a death.
• Assist trained APTs with post-mortem procedures and maintain accurate records.
