About The Role

As trainee airfield technician I will be working towards becoming fully trained, qualified and competent technician responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of LSA's airfield lighting and other airside assets located around a 300 acre site.

The assets include airfield lighting fittings and associated power distribution equipment, expansive grass land, paved surfaces and various equipment/infrastructure required to run a safe operation.

My goal is to ensure compliance and a safe airside operating environment.


You're probably thinking “so what is it I will actually be doing day to day?” well…

  • I will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance of LSA airfield lighting systems and associate infrastructure.
  • I will be responsible for ensuring that statutory compliance is achieved on LSA's airside assets.
  • I will be responsible for supporting LSA surface water sampling scheme, ensuring it is completed correctly and appropriately documented.
  • I will support airside project works by ensuring they are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • I will be responsible for ensuring that airside works is appropriately planned and communicated to all stakeholders.
  • I will be responsible for supporting management by maintaining and developing strong working relationships with third-party contractors.
  • I will be responsible for maintaining the detailed register of the airport's airside assets, including ensuring that stock is appropriately managed.

Required

This role is crucial in ensuring our airport operates smoothly, efficiently, and safely. We are looking for the successful candidate to have key knowledge and experience; if you possess the below you have everything required to excel in this position:

  • GCSEs A-C in English, Maths and Science.
  • Ideally hold a level 2-3 technical qualification in electrical engineering or similar.
  • Ideally have relevant work experience.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence.

What Training Can I Expect To Receive

  • AGLT: C&G Assured Aeronautical Ground Lighting Technician Training.
  • APAGL: C&G Assured Aeronautical Ground Lighting Authorised Person Training.
  • C&G Assured Airfield Pavement Maintenance Training.
  • Runway Friction Monitoring Maintenance Training.
  • Confined Space Training: To facilitate safe working within lighting pits and surface water infrastructure.
  • IPAF Training: To facilitate airfield lighting maintenance.

The aforementioned is delivered through a combination of third-party service providers and on job training delivered by London Southend Airports existing qualified airfield lighting engineers.
