University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in Coventry is recruiting for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) to join the Urgent and Emergency Care workforce, with a structured development pathway into advanced practice across four pillars.
The role involves clinical triage, history taking, examination, formulating differential diagnoses, interpreting investigations and developing management plans, while providing clinical leadership, teaching, audit and service
We are welcoming applications from committed, experienced and motivated clinicians to join our expanding Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) workforce as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP).
The role offers a structured progressive development pathway into advanced clinical practice covering 4 pillars of advanced practice, supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred through UEC pathways, contributing to improving patient flow across the healthcare economy, preventing avoidable hospital admissions and ensuring patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time.
As a senior member of the clinical team the tACP will possess a pivotal role in supporting current and new members of the team and wider organisational staff in ongoing development of services.
Upon successful completion of the programme, the tACP will be formally assessed in demonstrating the required performance and core capability standards of a qualified ACP, as set out in the multiprofessional framework for Advanced Practice (NHS England, 2025)
Working as a tACP within Urgent and Emergency Care pathways, clinical responsibilities will include, not limited, to clinical triage, comprehensive history taking, physical examination, formulation of differential diagnoses, honing senior decision-making skills, interpretation of investigations, development of management plans for individuals presenting with undifferentiated signs and symptoms of acute and urgent healthcare needs.
The tACP will demonstrate effective communication skills, able to lead positive patient journeys across the MDT through advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking and decision-making skills in the management of patients presenting with urgent and emergency care needs. They will work collaboratively across integrated health and social care teams, supporting assessment, treatment and ongoing management of patients, contributing to safe, effective, caring, responsive, well-led care delivery through clinical governance, learning needs of self and others and evaluation of care via audit and research.
The tACP will deliver high-quality patient care, ensuring adherence to clinical pathways, policies and EBP. They will contribute to service development, support appropriate referral streaming and patient flow across the healthcare system and help optimise the utilisation of health and social care resources.
The tACP will develop and provide clinical leadership within their sphere of practice and act as a source of specialist knowledge and support for nursing, allied health professional and medical colleagues. They will contribute to education, mentorship and the development of the wider workforce.
A commitment to continual service improvement is essential. The post holder will be expected to participate in audit, quality improvement projects, research activity and the evaluation of clinical outcomes to ensure care remains safe, effective and aligned with national best practice.
