We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join the Cardiothoracic Ward Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. At STH, we recognise the vital role ACPs play in delivering high-quality, flexible care and innovative ways of working. We are looking for a passionate and driven trainee committed to providing excellent clinical care and developing the autonomy required for advanced practice. As a trainee, you will undertake a fully supported MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice while developing the advanced clinical skills necessary to support our patients and teams.
Significant investment has been made at STH in developing our ACP workforce to ensure patients receive timely, expert care. We seek a self-motivated and enthusiastic trainee with a strong desire to grow into an exceptional clinical leader.
You will join a dynamic and expanding ACP team with opportunities to contribute to clinical care, quality improvement, education, and research. Your training will be supported by the Advanced Practice (AP) Academy at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, which provides a structured, supportive environment for trainee ACPs. The Academy offers education, supervision, clinical training, and professional development aligned with national standards and the four pillars of advanced practice. It collaborates with local universities to provide tailored learning opportunities, including induction, simulation, study days, and peer support forums. The programme emphasizes governance, consistency, and quality, fostering a positive learning environment where trainees develop confidence and competence to become safe, effective, and autonomous ACPs.
The programme follows the NHS Apprenticeship route, combining academic study with practical experience. Course fees are fully funded, and protected supervised learning time is provided. Some travel may be required.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed-term contract basis for 3 years due to the training programme. The contract's fixed-term status will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations. Secondments must be approved by your current line manager. All applicants will start at Band 6, progressing to Band 7 upon meeting necessary skills and training requirements.
Applicants must be UK, EEA, or EU residents for at least three years to undertake this apprenticeship training programme.
