Job summary

Michael Page Finance is seeking a Trainee Accountant for their Audit and Accounts team in Worthing. You will assist with statutory accounts, VAT returns, and the preparation of management reports while supporting audit work both on-site and remotely.

Ideal candidates are aiming to study for the AAT qualification, have strong GCSE/A-Level results, and possess good IT and communication skills. This is a permanent, on-site position with on-the-job training and study support.

Qualifications

• Interest in building practical accounting knowledge.
• Strong GCSE/A-Level results and a willingness to study for AAT.
• Eagerness to pursue AAT qualification.
• Good communication skills in written and spoken English.
• Strong IT ability and familiarity with accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Support audit assignments on-site and remotely for a varied client portfolio.
• Perform audit testing and substantive procedures under supervision.
• Prepare working papers and ensure files are accurate and complete.
• Assist with VAT returns preparation and submission.
• Support production of management accounts and financial reports.
• Process bookkeeping and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with corporation tax and self-assessment tax computations.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information and resolve queries.
• Use Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and CCH in daily work.
• Maintain accurate client records and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in professional training toward a recognised accounting qualification.
