Trainee Accountant (Tax Specialisation)

Level 7 ACA Apprenticeship

Are you a recent graduate in accounting, finance or science, eager to start your career? We have an exciting opportunity for you! We are offering a Level 7 ACA Apprenticeship with a focus on tax, based in the organisation responsible for the ACA qualification and setting the highest standards in chartered accountancy, ICAEW itself.

As an apprentice, you will play a key role in our accounting department, gaining practical experience across various accounting areas including financial reporting, audit, and management accounting, with a special emphasis on tax. You will work within financial accounting, financial systems, and tax/VAT, gaining a fundamental understanding of the key processes within each function.

Your responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation and review of year-end financial statements for ICAEW, UK limited subsidiary companies and overseas entities, and preparing month-end results along with associated reconciliation processes. You will also prepare audit schedules, address audit queries, and develop a good understanding of ICAEW's tax affairs, both in the UK and for its overseas offices. Understanding IR35 rules and assisting in determining worker compliance will be part of your role, as will preparing UK and overseas direct and indirect tax returns, and helping tax managers with the administration of tax and VAT submission deadlines.

Additionally, you will assist the finance system team with regular systems upkeep and administration processes, develop and maintain system user and administration guides, build and deliver financial reports, troubleshoot issues, and support users with queries.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking recent graduates in accountancy or science related subjects who have achieved a 2:1 (or predicted), with a strong academic record and a passion for the profession. Aspiring accountants with a keen interest in tax and an eagerness to start their careers with an esteemed qualification are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidates will possess analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, a good standard of written English, the ability to work using their own initiative, excellent communication skills, and a keen eye for detail.
