Edgcumbe Ward is aspecialist dementia 11 bedded assessment unit based at Mount Gould Hospital inPlymouth. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered MentalHealth or General Nurse to join our team.
We are looking forapplicants who have an interest in the care of people with Dementia and want to develop their clinical and assessment skills in bothmental and physical health.
The post holderwill work a range of shifts including long days, early, late and night shifts over a 7 day period.
We welcomeapplications from people who may already have experience or who may be recentlyqualified.

Edgcumbe ward is an 11 bedded dementiaassessment unit based in Plymouth providing 24-hour care for people whose needsrequire specialist assessment.
The post holder is responsible for theassessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation ofprogrammes of care. Edgcumbe works within an MDT model with nursing staff / OTs / Physiosand Medics.
The post holders will have a passionfor the care of people with dementia. Previous experience of working withdementia is preferable however, this post is also suitable for people who are recentlyqualified.
Following a period of induction post holderswill be designated as in charge of some shifts as well as completing medicationand ward rounds.
Following a period of development, thepost holder will have the opportunity to share their knowledge through providingsupervision to junior staff. Opportunities will be provided for the post holderto take a lead role in an area they are interested in, as well as furthertraining to develop the skills they have already acquired.
Thepost holder will be involved in all aspects of care including meeting patients holisticcare needs, personal care, meeting physical health needs and where needed supportingEnd of Life care.

Key Tasks andResponsibilities of the Post
Utiliseprofessional skills to assess, plan and implement and deliver care topatients who are in an acute phase of their illness.
Organisethe provision of care and act as named professional within a care team for aspecified group of patients.
Tofunction as a member of a multidisciplinary team taking appropriateresponsibility for the implementation of the decisions made by the team.
Ensureplanned nursing care is implemented and evaluated.
Participatein training programmes for both trained and untrained staff.
Inconjunction with the university and senior staff nurses ensure trainingprogrammes/objectives for student nurses are implemented.
Tobe responsible for implementing drug administration procedures according topolicy.
Maintainstandards of care to highest level within available resources.
Toactively participate in line management and appraisals with senior and juniormembers of staff.
Toliaise effectively with other wards and services. To develop and maintain relationships withproviders statutory and non-statutory
Tomaintain confidentiality in respect of the patient/client at all times.
Communicateclearly with patients, their families and all other mental health professionalgroups about their health problems and care plan.
Playan active role in CPA multi disciplinary reviews and ward rounds, reportingon the assessment of the patients progress and participating further in MDTCare Planning.
Ensurethat patients are encouraged to play a part in the Care Plan they receive topromote person centred planning.
Attendand participate in meetings ie. Case Conference, Mental Health reviewtribunals and Best Interests meetings.
Toactively participate and provide clinical supervision
Tohave a working knowledge of Livewell Southwests Policies and Guidance.
Toundertake Physical Intervention training as provided by the Trust.
Toensure compliance with the Trusts clinical record keeping policy
Tohave a competent and robust knowledge of legislation including Mental HealthAct, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty safeguards.
Tosupport the Induction and Preceptorship program.
Toensure mandatory training is up to date and be able to undertake in their ownworkplace.
Tobe able to assess and manage risk for their personal safety and the safety oftheir colleagues within the relevant policies
Towork in accordance with the NMC guidelines around CPD.
Toat all times work within the NMC Code of Conduct
Thepost holder is required to comply with all infection control, policies andguidance, attend relevant updates and report issues of concern to theirimmediate line manager (if no action or explanation received, then it is theindividuals responsibility to escalate to Director of Operations / ChiefExecutive office).
