Job summary

Amey Consulting is seeking a permanent Traffic Signals Design Engineer to join our Consulting Lighting, Power and Technology team. Based with flexibility across the UK, you will work on traffic signals schemes for local authorities and Highways England clients, delivering designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.

You should have experience in traffic signals design, AutoCAD, KeySignals and LINSIG, knowledge of SCOOT UTC/MOVA desirable, and a professional accreditation.

Qualifications

• Experience in traffic signals design and operation.
• Familiarity with relevant standards and client requirements.
• Involvement in health, safety and welfare tasks (CDM).
• Ability to deliver technically sound engineering solutions with documentation.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to produce technically sound traffic signals designs.
• Prepare designs, calculations, drawings and documentation for scheme delivery.
• Identify design risks and communicate with client representatives.
• Oversee junior team members on related tasks, where appropriate.
• Liaise with clients and suppliers; attend progress meetings.

Amey Consulting – Traffic Signals Engineer

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Traffic Signals Engineer to join our Consulting Lighting, Power and Technology team. With offices in Birmingham, Sheffield, York, Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh we are open to candidate from across the country.

The standard hours of work are 40 Hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. Amey Consulting is a design partner to National Highways through the Midlands and Southwest Scheme Delivery Frameworks (SDF), where we are working on numerous traffic signals designs for new sites and refurbishments.

We also undertake traffic signals design for a range of local authorities across the UK through our position on frameworks, including the Midlands Highways Alliance and YorConsult, and for Transport Scotland through our Northeast and Southwest regional contracts.

What you will be doing

As a Traffic Signals Design Engineer you will provide effective support and assistance to the team on a variety of traffic signals and related schemes and help delivery of these. Responsibilities include:

• To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
• Preparation of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme
• Identify design risk and hazards and communicating those with Principal Contractors via scheme safety risk management documentation
• Overseeing the actions of more junior members ofstaff undertaking similar tasks, where appropriate, and taking responsibility for their actions
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries
• Contributing to the preparation of bids and general working winning function
• Drive effective health and safety practices within the team

We want to hear from you if you have:

• Developedexperience and expertise within traffic signals field.
• Knowledge of traffic signals design processes and procedures or on-road operational and maintenance experience of traffic signals
• An ability to producetechnically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
• Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
• Competent in use of AutoCAD and KeySignals
• Experience of junction modelling using LINSIG.
• Ability to produce detailed traffic signals designs including writing of controller configuration forms.
• Experience of traffic signals Factory and Site Acceptance testing and commissioning.
• Knowledge/experience of design and validation of SCOOT UTC and/or MOVA is desirable.

Qualifications & Experience

• Professional accreditation status is desirable, gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned
