Job summary

Amey Consulting is seeking a Senior Traffic Signals Engineer to join our Lighting, Power and Technology team. You will lead a team on traffic signals projects, prepare designs and calculations, and manage risks, budgets and deliverables from multiple UK offices.

The role requires specialist traffic signals knowledge, proficiency in AutoCAD/KeySignals, and experience with LINSIG and SCOOT/MOVA. Hybrid and flexible working options are available across the country.

Qualifications

  • Developed experience and expertise within traffic signals field.
  • Knowledge of traffic signals design processes and procedures or on-road operational and maintenance experience of traffic signals.
  • Ability to producetechnically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Competent in use of AutoCAD and KeySignals.
  • Experience of junction modelling using LINSIG.
  • Ability to produce detailed traffic signals designs including writing of controller configuration forms.
  • Experience of traffic signals Factory and Site Acceptance testing and commissioning.
  • Knowledge/experience of design and validation of SCOOT UTC and/or MOVA is desirable.
  • Professional accreditation status is desirable, gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables.
  • Identify design risk and hazards and communicating those with Principal Contractors via scheme safety risk management documentation.
  • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks, where appropriate, and taking responsibility for their actions.
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
  • Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
  • Contributing to the preparation of bids and general working winning function.
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.

Amey Consulting – Senior Traffic Signals Engineer

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Traffic Signals Engineer to join our Consulting Lighting, Power and Technology team. With offices in Birmingham, Sheffield, York, Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh we are open to candidate from across the country.

The standard hours of work are 40 Hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. Amey Consulting is a design partner to National Highways through the Midlands and Southwest Scheme Delivery Frameworks (SDF), where we are working on numerous traffic signals designs for new sites and refurbishments.

We also undertake traffic signals design for a range of local authorities across the UK through our position on frameworks, including the Midlands Highways Alliance and YorConsult, and for Transport Scotland through our Northeast and Southwest regional contracts.

What you will be doing

As a Senior Traffic Signals Design Engineer, you will provide effective support and assistance to the team on a variety of traffic signals and related schemes and help delivery of these. Responsibilities include:
