Job summary

WR Logistics in Felixstowe is seeking an experienced Traffic Operator to join our busy operations team. You’ll plan daily container movements, manage drivers and ensure our customers receive a first‑class service in a fast‑paced environment.

You will coordinate planning from Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton, maximise vehicle utilisation and build strong relationships with drivers, ports and customers to maintain high service levels.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Traffic Operator, Transport Planner or Container Transport Operator.
• Strong knowledge of container haulage and UK port operations.
• Experience planning traffic from Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton.
• Good understanding of VBS and port booking systems.
• Experience using TOPS (preferred but not essential).

An established and growing container transport and logistics business is looking to recruit an experienced Traffic Operator to join its busy operations team in Felixstowe.

The Role

As a Traffic Operator, you’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day planning and coordination of container movements, ensuring vehicles are utilised efficiently while maintaining excellent service levels.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning container transport from Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton
• Managing an allocated fleet of vehicles and maximising vehicle utilisation
• Building strong working relationships with drivers and providing clear daily communication
• Ensuring customer requirements and service levels are consistently achieved
• Proactively resolving any operational issues throughout the day
• Booking and managing Vehicle Booking System (VBS) slots accurately
• Liaising with ports, customers and drivers to ensure smooth transport operations
• Working closely with the wider operations team to deliver an efficient service

About You

You’ll ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Traffic Operator, Transport Planner or Container Transport Operator
• Strong knowledge of container haulage and UK port operations
• Experience planning traffic from Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton
• A good understanding of VBS and port booking systems
• Experience using TOPS (preferred but not essential)
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to manage driver relationships
• Good IT skills and attention to detail
• The ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure
