Caseworker - Traffic

Job Purpose

To provide an efficient case file preparation service in support of case management by providing continuity of support for offenders, victims, and witnesses throughout the prosecution process. This involves extensive use of digital file processes, continually linking with national and legislative requirements.


Main Responsibilities
  1. Preparation of Advance Disclosure on Crown Prosecution files in relation to criminal offences, ensuring these are prepared within set timescales.
  2. Respond to requests for information received in writing and over the phone from solicitors, insurance companies, third-party suppliers, councils, courts, and the Crown Prosecution Service.
  3. Update the LIBRA Q View system following magistrates' court adjournments and final hearing results.
  4. Update the Victim and Witness Service regarding conditional bail for defendants.
  5. Add victim and witness information to the Crown Prosecution National Case Management system, ensuring timely and accurate digital data transfer to other criminal justice agencies.
  6. Research and collate court hearing outcomes in magistrates' and crown courts, understanding sentencing guidelines, and ensuring all systems are updated accurately.
  7. Accurately record, file, and retrieve all taped interview media, including interviews with vulnerable witnesses, to support prosecution cases.
  8. Utilize technology to support performance and interrogate force systems such as Police National Computer, CRIMES/GENIE, Pentip, CRASH, Case/Custody, and ARMs, ensuring files are MoPI compliant and aligned with policies.
  9. Manage out-of-court disposals like conditional cautions, victim-led penalties, drug referral schemes, and educational outcomes, promoting restorative justice.
  10. Set first court dates in the system at the start of custody-initiated offences, interfacing with courts and CPS systems to meet timescales.
  11. Create postal requisitions for initial court hearings, setting dates, creating relevant charges, and informing defendants accordingly.
  12. Provide information to solicitors and insurance companies, ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with legal and organizational protocols.
  13. Update IT systems with case file information, including victim and witness details, for electronic transfer to courts and CPS.
  14. Conduct quality assurance on out-of-court disposal files and system records.
  15. Review daily court lists to identify sentencing hearings and ensure timely updates to IT systems.
  16. Prepare antecedent information per Practice Directions.
  17. Manage a 'bring forward system' to ensure timely receipt of final hearing outcomes.
  18. Support warrants management administratively.
  19. Undertake additional duties as required, commensurate with the role's responsibilities.
Special Conditions

Frequent physical effort required. Exposure to disturbing or unpleasant images or tasks. Working hours between 0700 and 1700 within a flexi-time scheme, with potential work outside core hours on a rota.

Person Specification
Knowledge
  • Educated to GCSE/Level 3 or equivalent, with grades A-C in English and Maths.
  • Working knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, especially criminal and road traffic prosecutions.
Experience
  • Proven experience of and ability to understand and apply complex information.
Key Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines, managing high workloads and competing demands.
  • Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office or equivalent.
  • Ability to file and retrieve data both numerically and alphabetically.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
