Job summary

Plum Underwriting is seeking a Trading Underwriter to assess risk for new, mid-term adjustments and renewals across specialist home insurance products. You will quote, convert and retain business while delivering high-quality service to brokers through all distribution channels.

The role emphasizes underwriting authority, broker trade, and accurate monthly reporting, with a focus on income, conversion and retention targets and support for product development.

Qualifications

• Experience underwriting a mixed household / Commercial Property portfolio.
• Strong written and verbal communication, sales and negotiation skills.
• Analytical thinking with good IT skills; experience in an MGA is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite in line with authority and guidelines.
• Trade with Brokers to maximise conversion and retention.
• Monthly reporting to Line Manager.
• Renewals, existing and new business control.
• Handle referrals from other offices when needed.
• Support income, conversion and retention objectives.
• Assist in development of new and existing products.
• Handle enquiries from clients, insurers and third parties professionally.

Location: Basildon (3 days per week to be worked in the Basildon office)

We’re strengthening our team at Plum Underwriting and looking for a Trading Underwriter to join the team as we continue to grow.

The role of the Trading Underwriter is to evaluate the risk and exposures of customers for new business, mid-term adjustments and renewals. Quoting, converting and retaining business to meet budget and underwriting performance targets for the range of specialist home insurance products throughout all Plum’s distribution channels, ensuring Plum provides excellent service to its brokers at all times.

The day to day:

• Underwrite in accordance with the Plum Internal Underwriting Guide and the Underwriting authority awarded
• Trade with Brokers to maximise conversion and retention within your authority
• Monthly reporting to Line Manager
• Renewal/Existing and New Business Control
• Take underwriting referrals from other offices where outside individuals level of authority
• Understand/support and drive income, conversion and retention objectives
• Assist in the development of new & existing products
• Deal with incoming enquiries from clients, insurers and other third parties in a professional and timely manner
• To underwrite taking all necessary care to protect the interest of our capacity providers

Your experience:

• Ideally, you’ll have experience of successfully underwriting a mixed household / Commercial Property portfolio
• A varied skill set that includes strong Communication (both written and verbal), sales, negotiation, analytical and IT skills.
• Previous experience within an MGA business would be highly beneficial
