IDEX Consulting Ltd is recruiting a Senior P&C Underwriter to lead a small team in London (4 days office-based), focusing on SME property and casualty risks via an online trading platform.

This player-coach role blends hands-on underwriting with coaching, supervising six underwriters, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring underwriting discipline, service quality, and strong broker relationships while collaborating with senior leaders.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in SME/Commercial P&C underwriting.
• Exposure to online/e-trade platforms.
• Proven coaching or mentoring of junior underwriters.
• Ability to work in high-volume environment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite SME Property & Casualty risks via an online trading platform.
• Manage a portfolio of high-volume, fast-paced business (new & renewal).
• Act as a technical referral point for a team of 6 underwriters.
• Coach and support the team on underwriting decisions and platform usage.
• Help maintain underwriting discipline, consistency, and service standards.
• Support the Head of Underwriting with day-to-day team oversight.
• Build strong broker relationships within a delegated/trading environment.

The Opportunity

A well-established and growing insurance platform is looking to hire a Senior P&C Underwriter into a team lead / player-coach role within its London office.

This role sits within a high-volume, digitally traded SME book, providing cover for businesses such as shops, pubs, restaurants, and other commercial premises.

It’s an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take a first or second step into leadership, while staying close to the underwriting and developing coaching experience.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Underwriting SME Property & Casualty risks via an online trading platform
• Managing a portfolio of high-volume, fast-paced business (new & renewal)
