Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a fully qualified Trading Standards Officer to join the Enterprise and Specialist Services Team. The role covers regulatory inspections and investigations across manufacturing and commercial premises, with emphasis on the UKAS-accredited metrology laboratory and its commercial operations.

You will lead investigations, provide specialist business advice, and help develop sampling programmes. A CTSI qualification and strong public protection focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Hold Professional CTSI qualification (Diploma in Trading Standards) with Weights & Measures and Food Standards modules.
• Proven experience in Trading Standards enforcement, inspections and investigations.
• Experience in metrology laboratory settings is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver inspections, audits and investigations at manufacturing and commercial premises.
• Lead and manage complex investigations into breaches of Trading Standards legislation.
• Undertake metrology enforcement activities, including testing equipment used for trade.
• Support the operation and development of the UKAS-accredited metrology laboratory and its commercial activities.
• Develop and implement sampling programmes, surveys and service initiatives.
• Provide specialist advice to businesses, including Primary Authority partnerships.
• Prepare cases and present evidence in court, tribunals and formal proceedings.

We are seeking a fully qualified and motivated Trading Standards Officer to join our Enterprise and Specialist Services Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a varied and challenging role, delivering the full range of Trading Standards functions, with a particular focus on industrial and non-retail sectors. A key aspect of the role will be to work within our UKAS accredited laboratory, and the development and expansion of its commercial operations

About The Role

Pay Details: Grade 9, SCP 31 - 35 £43,149 - £47,665

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours flexible working (part time/job share applications will be considered)

Main Place of Work: Bridgend/Cardiff/Vale of Glamorgan, office locations and home working.

You will also contribute to broader regulatory activity, supporting compliance across service areas and working collaboratively with internal and external partners.

About You

You will be an experienced and competent Trading Standards professional with a strong commitment to public protection and business support.

You must:

• Hold a Professional CTSI qualification (Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent) including Weights & Measures and Food Standards modules
• Have proven experience in Trading Standards enforcement, inspections and investigations
