We are currently seeking high-caliber talent for our Trader Development Programme (TDP), based in London or Rotterdam.

What’s the role?

The Trader Development Programme offers a unique 2-4 year structured pathway to becoming a trader. No prior trading experience is necessary; candidates should have relevant work experience. The program is tailored based on experience and can be accelerated for candidates with specific skills. Rotations may include trading operations, risk analysis, and market analysis. Near the end, trainees will learn physical and paper trading under supervision. Progress is regularly assessed, with support through on-the-job training, mentoring, and courses.

Typical responsibilities during rotations include:

  • Scheduling ship operations and coordinating with stakeholders
  • Understanding and managing market, counterparty, and operational risks
  • Studying commodity markets and translating analysis into trading positions
  • Maximizing value along the supply chain with Shell assets
  • Collaborating on arbitrage opportunities
  • Executing physical and paper trades under supervision
  • Developing trading strategies and structures
What we need from you

While prior trading experience isn’t required, a Bachelor’s Degree or higher is essential, with proven experience in Market Risk, Commercial Operations, Quantitative/Analytics, or similar roles within financial services.

We are also interested in candidates with:

  • Commercial Acumen: An understanding of global energy markets, entrepreneurial spirit, self-motivation, and commercial insight.
  • Analytical Skills: Numeracy, ability to analyze large data sets, and synthesize insights for trading strategies.
  • Adaptability: Ability to think quickly, make decisions on the fly, and switch between micro and macro perspectives.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork and communication skills across diverse teams worldwide.
  • Responsibility: Accountability for decisions, adherence to legislation, and alignment with Shell’s values of honesty, integrity, and respect.
