Exciting Career Opportunity in Aerospace Compliance
Our client, a prominent aerospace manufacturer, is seeking a skilled Trade Compliance Specialist to join their team in Edinburgh. This role offers the chance to contribute to the success of a leading company while ensuring adherence to critical trade regulations.

This role will support the management of aspects relating to UK Export Control and Trade Compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with company procedures for record keeping to meet HMRC and DBT regulations.
  • Process re-exports of imported goods under Customs control to fulfill financial obligations.
  • Collaborate with Project Teams and functions to ensure proper management of Export Control and Trade Compliance aspects of Equipment and Technology (including data) in alignment with UK and Foreign export authorizations.
  • Support preparations for internal/external audits concerning Export Control and Trade Compliance matters.
  • Provide guidance to Project Teams for compliance with UK Export Control regulations and internal corporate policies. Advise on the most suitable and valid UK export licenses, including MOD Form 680s, End User Undertakings, and other necessary government permissions for exporting from the UK.
  • Manage UK Export Licensing by submitting and overseeing Export License applications to the UK Department for Business & International Trade Export Control Joint Unit (“DBT-ECJU”) via SPIRE.
  • Submit MoD Form 680 (“F680”) applications to UK MoD via SPIRE and liaise with UK MoD to secure approvals in line with company requirements.
  • Offer specialist advice and recommendations to Project Teams (“IPTs”) to ensure proper Commodity List Classification (CLC)/Export Control Ratings for compliance with UK Export regulations.
  • Provide IPTs with clear guidance on licensing and customs matters to meet deadlines and ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to all stages of IPTs' delivery to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
  • Proactively contribute technical expertise in export licensing and customs management to planning and management processes.
  • Manage Import Control by processing imported goods according to Customs Authorizations, including record keeping and reporting to HMRC. Provide import clearance instructions to freight agents promptly for customs clearance and goods delivery to the business.
  • Process export notifications and requests, providing accurate export documentation in a timely manner. Assign appropriate Export licenses and customs procedures within company business systems (currently SAP). Provide export clearance documentation and instructions to Shipping.
  • Support and prepare for internal and external audits.


Skills required:

  • Experienced in export control/trade compliance with detailed knowledge of UK Export Licensing, Trade Controls, and familiarity with foreign import/export regulations, especially EU Member States and US ITAR and EAR.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for decision-making based on credible knowledge of International Trade.
  • Presentation skills for delivering training.


Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with SAP ERP (ECC6 or S4/HANA).
  • Understanding of trade compliance considerations for international support programs within the aerospace, defense, and security sector.
