Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Track Design Engineer to develop and manage rail infrastructure proposals from feasibility through detailed design. The role involves delivering safe, cost‑effective solutions while meeting programme, budget, quality and safety requirements.

Based in Wimbledon, with London or Basingstoke options, the position requires a solid railway background, strong design evaluation skills and a valid PTS certification.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Relevant railway engineering experience and track design knowledge.
• Strong technical evaluation and decision‑making skills.
• CDM, risk assessment and external audit competency.
• Valid Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate track engineering proposals and design options.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant railway standards and safety requirements.
• Manage engineering risks, scope changes, technical interfaces and design reviews.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors and consultants.
• Support feasibility studies, site surveys and detailed design handovers.
• Ensure compliance with CDM requirements and environmental considerations.

Track Design Engineer

Location: Wimbledon, London or Basingstoke - 3 days per week in the office, with nationwide project coverage as required. Rate: £440 per day (Umbrella, non-negotiable) Contract length: 6 months
