Location: Bradford/ Hybrid Working (a mix of office and home working)
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday between the working window of 8:00am-6:00pm.

Land & Property is setting up a new town planning centre of excellence to provide sound advice to the business on all aspects relating to the planning permission process as well as influencing local plans to reduce water demand/flooding, improving water quality and support Yorkshire Water’s capital programme. The town planning (development management team) will support the planning application process, working with local planning authorities, offering expert advice on planning policy and development management matters affecting Yorkshire Water’s operations and capital programme.
Where you fit in –
As Town Planner you will support collaborative working with local planning authorities monitoring and responding to emerging local plans, spatial strategies and national planning policy changes.
You will:
• Be responsible for providing expert advice on planning policy matters affecting Yorkshire Water’s operations and capital programme.
• Monitor and respond to emerging local plans, spatial strategies, and national planning policy changes.
• Engage with local planning authorities, regional bodies, and stakeholders to influence planning policy in support of sustainable infrastructure.
• Support the integration of biodiversity net gain (BNG), climate resilience, and sustainable development into planning policy responses.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure planning policy considerations are embedded in project development and land use strategies.
• Identify opportunities to align Yorkshire Water’s estate and infrastructure with wider planning and environmental goals.
• As directed by the Estates Planning Manager or Senior Planner, provide town planning support across Yorkshire Water’s diverse estate as and when required.
• Work with the Land & Property team to seek and progress commercial and efficiency opportunities arising from the estate, thinking creatively and innovatively.
What skills and qualifications you will need:
• Membership of the RTPI or equivalent experience in planning policy, spatial planning, or strategic planning.
• A track record of delivering results against challenging targets
• Excellent negotiation skills
• A demonstrable ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as excellent team working skills.
• Excellent customer service skills
• A proven ability to work under pressure to meet tight timescales by good prioritisation and time management skills
• An extensive knowledge and experience of the legal and regulatory requirements relating to the ownership, management and disposal of land and property including the Code of Practice. Also an understanding of property legislation and processes.
• Excellent IT skills
The role will involve travel to different sites across Yorkshire, therefore you will need a UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1 x day in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
